Dealing with growth boils down to some simple and
basic choices.

1.  You either believe we have the ability to build
ourselves out of the problems we created or you
believe we do not.  Yes or No!

2.  If you do not believe we have that ability to
create more housing, usable transit, and improved
quality of life, then you have very few options left.

These are:
A:  Building big walls to keep growth out.
B:  Running away to low density areas.
C:  Start killing those who don't have your money.

3.  History has proven than none of the above
responses will work past a generation or so.  As
Alistair clearly explained, blocking growth with laws
causes stagnation and decay.  All limits on human
growth and expression are trumped by human ingenuity.
Anywhere one person can get to, others can and will
follow.  So unless Hitler and eugenics are your forte,
you must conclude that growth requires a pro active
response.

4.  I believe we have the brains to build ourselves
out of the problems we built.

A.  Suburban Sprawl is a new (50 year) blight on the
land which can be countered by building an array of
mini-urban centers.  Just a computer networks have
"servers" to link and distribute information, this
valley can have places which are "people servers" to
distribute transit and provide clusters of quality
density housing and attractions.  We have already
built the high speed corridors for interconnect and
even included HOV lanes for immediate use.

B.  There are many places in this world where higher
density mixed uses housing and transit are seemlessly
integrated with tremendous quality and value.  The
high demand for housing allows Los Gatos the
priveledge to develop the best of the best here.  (I,
for one, would love to see a slice of Paris dropped
onto the North 40).

C.  We can not depend on a benevolent developer to
build this for us.  We can not build quality if we
must horse trade land use variances for parking
garages.  Most developer build and run.  We must
become the developer of our own destiny.

D.  There is an economic way to fund the building our
local people server (North Los Gatos) with either a
magnet hotel or a magnet school and park at the North
40. (Read the related links page on

Building positive responses to growth means building
for the next generation.  We have the wisdom to do it
and I believe this community can create the political
will.

ps.  I've been struggling with a new web software for
the past few weeks and apologize for not doing prompt
updates.  New stuff coming soon including a layout of
a North 40 with magnet school and soccer field.
